Mis Tomates: Painting

Mis Tomates

This piece reimagines the weight of daily labor as a crown of nourishment. The tomatoes symbolize both survival and abundance, connecting to the ancestral tradition of carrying harvests that sustain life.

Every stroke of Mis Tomates became a meditation on acceptance, resilience, and the quiet ways we can still bloom, even in seasons of rest and healing.

This 24×36 canvas was displayed at Tomato Art Fest 2025 in Nashville, and I am honored to have shared this story with the community. Ten 8.5×11 matted prints were also made available, allowing it to reach even more hands and homes.

But Mis Tomates isn’t just about tomatoes. It represents the unseen growth that takes place within us while we are mending. So often, the world measures progress by what can be seen or achieved outwardly. Yet healing teaches us that transformation is often quiet and patient.

During this season, my ability to create was limited. I couldn’t dive into my usual oil painting process, so I turned instead to digital art, carefully working to mimic the texture and depth of oils. What began as a compromise became an unexpected gift. Mis Tomates turned into one of my favorite pieces so far, reminding me that limitation can be fertile ground for creativity.

My hope is that when you see Mis Tomates, you feel a little more patience for your own path and a gentle reminder that we are always capable of blooming in unexpected ways.
